Basic Care
Meganite® has physical properties, which do not allow
food, dirt, bacteria, or germs to penetrate its surface.
Routine cleaning with soap and water and a sponge, or
window cleaner and paper towels will remove most dirt
and/or stains. To disinfect, occasionally wipe the surface
with equal parts of household bleach and water. Always
towel dry to remove water spots. [

Special Care
For stubborn stains, removable procedures will depend
on the finish of the surface:
|
|
| (a) |
The majority of countertops have a matte
or satin finish. For this finish, rub the
stain with a scouring cleanser, such as Bar
Keeper's Friend®, Ajax®, or Comet®,
and a burgundy or green-colored Scotch-Brite®
pad with water. Always rub in a circular motion,
then rinse and towel dry. Occasionally, rub
the entire surface with the Scotch-Brite®
pad to maintain the matte or satin finish. |
|
| (b) |
If your counter has a semi-gloss finish,
use a non-abrasive cleanser with bleach or
diluted bleach, and rub in circular motion
with a white Scotch-Brite® pad. Dry with
a towel and use a non-abrasive polish compound
to enhance the surface. |
|
| (c) |
If your counter has a high-gloss finish,
(not recommended for high-use or high -traffic
areas) use a sponge and apply a non-abrasive
polish compound. Extremely difficult stains
may require hand sanding with a 600-grit sandpaper,
followed by polishing with a white polish
compound using a soft cloth. |
|
| (d) |
For Meganite® sinks and bowls, use a
scouring cleanser with a burgundy or green
Scotch-Brite® pad with water. Occasionally,
fill the sink or bowl with a solution of equal
parts of household bleach and water and let
stand for about 10-15 minutes. Rinse sides
and bottom with water after draining. |

Preventive
Care
| (a) |
As with other solid surface materials, Meganite®
should be protected from hot pans directly
from the stove or oven by the use of hot pads
or trivets equipped with rubber-tipped feet. |
|
| (b) |
Always place a flame-resistant hot pad or
trivet underneath a heat-generating appliance
such as a crock-pot or electric frying pan. |
|
| (c) |
Some strong chemicals can cause damage to
your Meganite® surface if left in contact
very long. Paint removers, oven cleaners,
solvents containing methylene chloride or
acetone, acid drain cleaners, toilet bowl
cleaners, contact adhesive solvent, rust removers,
or lacquer thinners should be flushed with
soapy water as quickly as possible, rinsed
with clean water and towel dried. Nail polish
should be removed with a non-acetone based
nail polish remover and flushed with soapy
water. |
|
| (d) |
Run the cold water when pouring boiling
water into sinks and allow hot grease to cool
slightly before pouring into sink or disposal. |
|
| (e) |
Always cut food on cutting boards and avoid
cutting directly on the Meganite® countertop
surface. |

Cut
and Scratch Removal
One of the many superior features of Meganite® is
it's ability to be repaired if marred or damaged, Most
cuts and scratches can be removed by the owner following
the procedures outlined below. Serious cuts, damage from
falling objects, or any area the owner is not comfortable
in repairing should be referred to an authorized Meganite®
dealer or Fabricator. As with stubborn stains, the procedures
used to remove cuts and scratches will vary depending
on the finish of the material:
| (a) |
For a matte or satin finish, hand sand the
cut or scratch with a 220-grit sanding disc,
sanding in a circular motion. When the cut
or scratch is removed, hand sanding the area
with a 320 or 400-grit sanding disc, again
in a circular motion. Finally, rub the area
with a burgundy or green Scotch-Brite®
pad. |
|
| (b) |
For a semi-gloss finish, sand the cut or
scratch as above for a matte finish. Follow-up
with a white rubbing compound applied with
a soft cloth and then rub with a white Scotch-Brite®
pad. |
|
| (c) |
For a high-gloss finish (not recommended
for a high-traffic, high-use area), sand the
cut or scratch with a 220-grit sanding disc
until removed. Follow with a 320 or 400-grit
sanding disc and then a 600-grit sanding disc,
all in a circular motion. Buff with a white
polishing compound and a low-speed polisher
equipped with a wool pad. Finally, apply a
non-abrasive counter top polish available
at most home stores. |
