Care
The enduring beauty of MEGANITE can be attributed to its high performance non-porous characteristics and enhanced with simple care. There are three basic types of finishes used for Meganite – matte, satin, or gloss. Contact your sales and fabricator supplier regarding the description and finish for your project.
Routine Maintenance for Dirt and Stains
MEGANITE is easily cleaned; sponged with soap and water or ammonia based cleaners. Rinsing and drying the top is important to reduce blotching. Be sure to completely dry the top. To preserve the gloss level of your surfaces, avoid the use of glass cleaners.
Disinfecting Surfaces
MEGANITE can be disinfected with equal parts household bleach and water. It is designed to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew while withstanding most chemicals used in hospital environments and food service facilities.
Stubborn Stain Removal
MEGANITE is available in three finish options – matte, satin, or gloss. Contact your sales and fabricator supplier regarding the description and finish for your project with recommended stain treatment. After routine care, cleansers such as Soft Scrub can be applied to resistant stains with a damp sponge, followed by a thorough rinsing, and towel drying. The treatment of stubborn stains may require the use of commercially available solid surface cleaners, such as Clean Encounters.
MEGANITE Bowls and Sinks
Clean with a soft scrub or scouring cleanser with water. Occasionally fill bowl with an equal part solution of household bleach and water. Allow to stand for 10-15 minutes, follow with a water rinse.
Preventative Care
Darker colors tend to require more attention than lighter colors. Your designer and fabricator can offer suggestions regarding scratches and finishes that may result on the darker colors.
Care for countertop materials include the use of trivets with rubber tipped feet or hot pads to protect against extreme temperatures including hot pans moved directly to the surface from an oven or stove and frozen food containers moved directly from the freezer. Use a flame resistant trivet or hot pad under an electric frying pan or crock pot.
Do not cut directly on MEGANITE. Use cutting boards to avoid damaging countertops.
Some strong chemicals can damage surfaces if left on the surface for a continued period of time. The following should be flushed with soapy water as soon as possible; paint removers, oven cleaners, solvents containing acetone or methylene chloride, acid drain removers, toilet bowl cleaners, contact adhesive solvent, rust removers, and lacquer thinners. Remove nail polish with non-acetone polish remover and flush with soapy water.
Run cold water concurrently while pouring boiling water into sinks.
Removal of Cuts and Scratches
MEGANITE surfaces provide exceptional value through extended life and the ability to repair damage due to cuts and scratches. Darker colors tend to show scratches more than lighter colors, your designer or fabricator can offer suggestions for your particular project. Most scratches can be easily repaired by the owner, following the procedures outlined below:
- Clean the surface with soap and water, then rinse.
- Keeping the surface wet, use an abrasive pad with the finest grit level and begin lightly rubbing the scratch in the same direction. Occasionally move the rubbing motion to a perpendicular direction.
- Continually rinse the sanding pad to remove excess residue and repeat. Deep scratches may require a courser grit sanding pad. Keep the surface wet during this process. After scratch removal, use a successively finer grit pad to rub the entire surface for a uniform finish.
- Rinse, clean, and towel dry the surface.
